Massive Attack Resarch

Image
Massive Attack The Band One of the most innovative and influential groups of their generation, massive Attack  hypnotic sound a darkly sensual and cinematic fusion of hip-hop rhythms, soulful melodies, dub grooves, and choice samples. Their history dates back to 1983 and the formation of the Wild Bunch , one of the earliest and most successful sound system/DJ collectives to arrive on the U.K. music scene. Renowned for their seamless integration of a wide range of musical styles, from punk to reggae to R&B, the group's parties quickly became can't-miss events for the Bristol club crowd, and at the peak of their popularity they drew crowds so enormous that the local live music scene essentially ground to a halt. In February 2003, after a five-year wait, Massive attack released their fourth album, 100th Window , including collaborations with mainstay Horace Andes well as Sinead O'Connor Danny the Dog , released in 2004, marked the group's entr

News values and audience appeal

News values and audience appeal Daily Mail - Immigration: What a mess! This Front page of the Daily Mail would target the audience of  many people who read into what's happening around them and the newspapers view on the situation. This also may appeal to people who are interested in politics as they would be interested in the governments actions towards the immigration situation. The title of the story I'm focusing on is IMMIGRATION: WHAT A MESS. This language suggests that everything to do with the immigration crisis is a mess which suggests the government have not really took action. The way they have implied what a mess after immigration gives a very informal tone to the crisis. Its gives an impression that the newspaper are not really taking this issue seriously and its more of a mess to them. I think that this front page is slightly bias in the way that  it takes side to people against immigration and doesn't really support the immigrants side of the story. The

American Beauty - Scene analysis

Image
American Beauty - scene analysis       Camera work T he scene starts off with showing these photos before it transitions to the dinner table. The  camera work uses a slow zoom when showing the photos. This gives the audience time to look at the photos and get the impression of how the family used to be. From the photos shown to the audience given three photos of Jane from when she was younger. The photos of Jane show that she had a happy childhood as she appears full of laughter and happiness in the photos. showing these photos of Jane happy when she was younger shows how much she has changed before we see her in the present day. The second photo shown is one single photo of the family. Dad, Mum and daughter. They all appear happy. The photos are very key to the audience as after the characters are shown in present day its intriguing to understand what has happened in their life that was so bad to make their family so  miserable and dull. This implies that further on in t

Male gaze in Jason Derulo - Swalla

Image
JASON DERULO (  feat. Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign) -   SWALLA In this music video Jason Derulo is surrounded by many female dancers. He is the only male that appears in the video. The way the females are dancing around Jason Derulo in a very graphic way. The females in the video are very confident with their body's and they dance very sexually. This suggests that the intended message of this song was to put across very sexual thoughts. whilst Jason Derulo is singing and dancing he is breaking fourth wall. He is looking directly at the audience in a very devious way.  The relationship between the singers and the audience is that the audience would be very shocked or interested in the behaviour going on in the video. The dancers are wearing hardly any clothing and dancing around sexually and the singers are doing random acts very carelessly. The setting of the video is in a room full of water and candy. The women dancers are messing around on the floor an

A comparison of two national newspapers (The Guardian and The Daily Mail)

Image
THE GUARDIAN & THE DAILY MAIL                                                                                          The main difference between the Guardian and The Daily Mail is that The Guardian uses the Broadsheet layout and the Daily Mail is a tabloid layout. A similarity to each paper is that they both have a big masthead that stands out. Each cover is equally as attractive in my opinion and one title doesn't stand out more than the other. however on the Daily Mail the photo of the couple is more appealing as the story on this newspaper may appeal to someone who is more into soft news. The Guardian is presented as hard news however The Daily Mail is presented as soft news. The Daily Mail has more stories based on peoples life which would appeal more to people who are interested in reading the genre lifestyle. The Guardian has a lot more writing on the cover page compared to the daily mail which suggests The Guardian is written in more detail leading to The guardian b

Male Gaze

Image
MALE GAZE Taylor swift music video In this music video women are very empowering and in control. They were showing that women are strong and that they can fight. However there was a lot of makeup, handbags, heels and lots of other womanly associated objects during the video. This suggests that these women are showing strong empowerment but are still acting in a womanly stereotypical way. But this may have a positive side to it as it may be showing that women who are stereotypically womanly also are strong and can fight against men and that they are not just objects that do nothing that they can protect themselves and that they are just as equally able to fight like men. I think that this music video is very targeted at women because it is sending a very strong message to females that they are not just objects and that they can make a change to the way the world sees women through men's eyes. How teenagers are represented by online mail

Image
How teenagers are represented by online mail   News story 1 : Teenager jailed after stabbing a girl in the face and smashing another's head against a fence because they called him Harry Potter .  The images used are very graphic which gives a lot of detail on how serious the injuries were. The images would grab the publics attention as they would be interested to discover how this incident occurred. The teenage boy in the larger photo looks very guilty and may be responsible for this occurrence. This may come across to the audience that teenage boys are more violent and it is a warning to many young girls. The photos of the girls however  are represented as victims and may also be used as a warning to stay away from young male teenagers. The photos in the article puts a very stereotypical view on young teenage males which can reflect very badly on the opinion of the whole teenage generation. News story 2: Teenager dies day before 15th birthday as police inves
